Vebbin, a 14-year-old boy from Tambaram, met with an unfortunate accident as he fell from the terrace while playing with his pets. He sustained multiple fractures in both lower limbs and lost a lot of blood, and was sent into a state of shock. Looking at his severe state, he was immediately taken to Rela Hospital. Some of his injuries required expert care to put his joints in working condition. Dr. Ashok S. Gavaskar, Clinical Lead – Orthopaedics, Head – Joint Replacement Services, Arthroplasty (Joint Replacement), Orthopaedics, attended him. He was in ICU for two days because of his life-threatening condition, post which he was stabilised. The initial surgery got over in the injured spinal cord and thigh. Unfortunately, he had a major fracture in the leg, for which they had a plate. He was admitted for two weeks. Despite his pain, he was motivated that just 12 weeks after a painful surgery, he was back to his routine. He was then asked to walk with support for six weeks. After resuscitation, spanning days, we were finally able to save his life. We wish him the best in his life and future endeavours.
