Baby Arhaar’s battle with tyrosinemia
June 9, 2023
Baby Arheer from Punjab was battling with a rare liver disease, tyrosinemia type 1 when she was 6 months old. She started losing weight and did not begin teething even after 6 months. Her mother took her to the local hospital for treatment where she was diagnosed with Liver Cirrhosis and Multifocal Carcinoma in her liver and she was also told that she may not survive more than four days. The only solution suggested was liver transplantation and the chances of survival were only 40%. Her mother was worried and was left with no hope.
She met Dr. Jagadeesh Menon VR, Consultant, Pediatric Hepatology when he visited Chandigarh who gave her the hope that the child’s life can be saved with a liver transplantation. She visited Rela Hospital, Chennai to meet Prof. Mohamed Rela, Chairman & Director of Rela Hospital. After a thorough diagnosis, the procedures for liver transplantation were initiated and the mother came forward to be the donor.
After a successful liver transplantation, the child started getting healthier. She gained weight, started teething, and became more active and joyful post-surgery. The mother expresses her gratitude to Prof. Mohamed Rela, Dr. Jagadeesh Menon VR, and their expert team of doctors who saved her child’s life.
This story highlights the significance of compassionate and dedicated doctors striving to provide their patients with the best of care.
We wish Arheer the best of health.
