Mr. Thanuj’s father, a 55-year-old gentleman, was brought to Rela hospital when a corn kernel got stuck in his lungs.
Upon his arrival, he underwent a CT scan which revealed the presence of a foreign body. On Bronchoscopy examination, a piece of corn of approximately 3 cm in size in the right lung (Right lower lobe basal segment) was confirmed.
An expert team led by Dr. Benhur Joel Shadrach (Consultant- Interventional Pulmonology, Critical care & Sleep Medicine) carried out a bronchoscopic removal of a foreign body using a zero-tip retrieval basket.
After surgery, his lungs improved, and he recovered and was sent home the same day with no further issues. We wish him the best of health
