Brief Profile

Dr. Kumar Palaniappan completed his post-graduation and specialization at Meenakshi Mission Hospital, Madurai.Has worked as a senior resident at SGPGI, Lucknow. He trained in Liver Transplant Surgery training in Medanta-The Medicity, Gurgaon. He was trained for Robotic HPB Surgery at Vattikutti Institute of Robotic Surgery. He successfully performs Single Incision Laparoscopic surgeries. He underwent further training in HPB and Liver Transplant Surgery at Asan, Medical Center, Seoul. Iwate Medical University, Japan, trained him in Laparoscopic Liver Surgery. He received a travel grant for training in laparoscopic liver surgery in Japan. He received the best poster awards in International and National conferences.

  • Currently involved in a research project on “Clinical outcomes of pts after Liver transplantation with preoperative portal vein thrombosis”.
  • Involved in a project on “clinical outcomes after graft reduction in less than 8 kg babies in liver transplantation”
  • Had recently done a Comparative study on SILS Cholecystectomy Vs Three port Cholecystectmy at MIOT Hospitals, Chennai which was presented at IHPBA -2011 at New Delhi
  • Had performed a prospective analysis of outcomes of patients with novel reconstructive procedure post Whipple’s resection – Anterior Transgastric Pancreaticogastrostomy.
  • Involved in clinical trial (Co-investigator) for Neoadjuvant Chemo-Radiotherapy (Oncogel) Phase II for operable oesophageal cancer
  • Involved in a clinical trial (Co-investigator) on the role of study molecule on postoperative ileus in open colonic resection
  • Involved in a clinical trial (Co-investigator) on the role of study molecule in postoperative pain relief after open mesh hernioplasty
  • Done a dissertation on role of diagnostic laparoscopy in the management of patients with upper gastrointestinal cancers
  • Done a thesis in post-graduation on the outcomes of patients who present with upper GI bleed to a tertiary care hospital-mortality & morbidity
