Obstetrics and gynaecology are medical specialities that focus on two different aspects of the female reproductive system.

Cervical Cancer is the most serious condition in obstetrics and gynaecology. Cervical cancer happens when cells change in a woman’s cervix, which connects the uterus and vagina. This cancer can affect the deeper tissues of the cervix and may spread to other parts of the body, often the lungs, liver, bladder, vagina, and rectum.

Risk Factors of Cervical Cancer

One might be at higher risk of cervical cancer if they have:

• Started having intercourse before the age of 16 or within a year of starting to menstruate
• Multiple sexual partners
• Taken birth control pills, especially for longer than 5 years
• Smoked cigarettes
• A weakened immune system
• A sexually transmitted disease (STD)

Symptoms of Cervical Cancer

During the early stage of cervical cancer, there will be no symptoms at all. However, women should have regular cervical smear tests or Pap tests.
