Dr. Mohamed Rela as the Chairman and Managing Director of the Rela Institute & Medical Centre in India, is a well-known figure in the medical community. He is a Councilor for South/Southeast Asia in The Transplantation Society and President of the Liver Transplant Society of India, among other important positions. Dr. Rela is an associate editor for the American Journal of Transplantation and a member of the Executive Council of the International Living Donor Liver Transplantation Group.
Over the course of several decades, Dr. Rela has had an impressive career. He has written more than 900 peer-reviewed publications, with over 18,500 citations, and has a H Index of 69. His contributions total more than thirty-five book chapters, including important additions to Bailey & Love's Short Practice of Surgery and Gray's Anatomy.
Overseeing one of the busiest liver transplant programs in India, Dr. Rela has conducted over 6000 liver transplants and over 300 surgeries a year. His groundbreaking work includes the 1997 liver transplant on a five-day-old kid that set a new Guinness World Record. With over 20 international awards and accolades to his name as a consequence of his work, Dr. Rela's status as a pioneer and leader in the field of liver transplantation has been solidified.
