~ Honourable Ministers Thiru Ma Subramanian, Thiru P K Sekarbabu & Thiru Siva V Meyyanathan and Prof Rela flagged off the Walk-a-thon to commemorate International No-Tobacco Day ~

Chennai, May 29th, 2022: In commemoration of No Tobacco Day observed on 31st May every year, Rela Hospital, a Multi-Speciality Quaternary Care Hospital at Chromepet and Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya, a socio-spiritual organization organised a 2.5 km long Walk-a-thon for a Healthy, Happy, & Addiction free Tamil Nadu. The Walk-a-thon was flagged off by Honourable Thiru Ma Subramanian, Minister for Health & Family Welfare; Honourable Thiru P K Sekarbabu, Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments & Honourable Thiru Siva V Meyyanathan, Minister for Environment – Pollution Control & Youth welfare and sports department, Government of Tamil Nadu and Prof Mohamed Rela, Chairman, Dr Rela Hospital in the presence of Rajayogini B K Beena, Service Co-ordinator, Brahma Kumaris, Tamil Nadu Zone.

The Walk-a-thon was kick-started from Olcott School, Besant Nagar, Chennai. Over 1500 people of various ages and from various demographics participated with fervour for the social cause. The group consisted of brothers and sisters of Brahma Kumaris, students from different colleges and other people who raised awareness slogans against tobacco use and carried placards and banners to spread awareness of the ill effects of tobacco use. This year’s International No Tobacco Day is being observed with the theme ‘Tobacco: Threat to our environment”. The participants were given refreshments, breakfast and certificates

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Mohamed Rela, Chairman, Rela Hospital said, “we at Rela Hospital, very frequently witness the harmful effects of tobacco on its consumers, when we see patients coming to us with end stage carcinoma, mainly tongue, throat, liver and lungs. We are very happy to join the cause raised by Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya in educating the youth about a way of life without tobacco” added Prof Rela”
