Prof. Rela Appointed President of International Liver Transplantation Society

Chennai, May 16th, 2022: Prof. Mohamed Rela a pioneer in liver transplantation surgery in the world and Chairman of Rela Hospitals, Chennai has been appointed as the president of the International Liver Transplantation Society (ILTS) a global non-profit specialist society dedicated to education, research, and international collaboration in all aspects of liver transplantation. Prof Rela will be president of ILTS for the period 2022-2023.

Commenting on his appointment, Prof Mohamed Rela, Chairman, Rela Hospital Said, “I feel truly honoured to have been appointed as President of the International Liver Transplantation Society (ILTS). My aim would be to consolidate the research and advancements in Liver transplantation and make this a forum where we can exchange ideas, arrange training, provide scholarships and disseminate liver transplantation ideas around the world. There are still many countries not performing too many liver transplants and I feel with proper technical education and training we can achieve that too.”

Prof Mohamed Rela is one of the most accomplished surgeons in the world, he has published over 500 scientific articles and papers on liver transplantation and complex hepatobiliary pancreatic surgery. He has performed over 5000+ liver transplant surgeries, including one on a five-day-old baby, earning him an entry into the Guinness Book of Records in 2000.
