Prof. Mohamed Rela, is a liver transplant surgeon with over 25 years of experience in the field He has been a consultant surgeon and Professor of Liver surgery at Kings college hospital, London since 1993.

He has been working in India since 2009 and now runs the busiest liver transplantation program in South India, performing over 200 liver transplants each year. He has authored over 400 peer-reviewed publications and a number of book chapters including a chapter in the latest edition of Gray’s Anatomy.

The annual Master Class in Liver Disease series started by him in 2011 is one of the most popular academic events in South Asia, regularly attended by over a 1000 delegates from most South Asian countries.

He is currently a council member of the ILTS and Past-chair of the ILTS Pediatric committee

Dr. Ilankumaran Kaliamoorthy is a Liver Transplant Anaesthesia and Intensive Care expert who has got special interest in Acute liver failure, Paediatric liver transplantation, Liver intensive care and health care administration. He currently heads the Medical and Administrative team at the Dr. Rela Institute & Medical Centre, Chennai.

Upon completing his MBBS and postgraduate training in Anaesthesia in India, Dr. Kaliamoorthy moved to the United Kingdom. There, he spent 6 years working in the area of Anaesthesia & Intensive care in hospitals such as the West Suffolk Hospital & Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh, and in other hospitals in England and Scotland. After gathering experience and a FRCA from the Royal College of Anaesthetists, London, he returned to India in 2009.

In India, Dr. Kaliamoorthy joined Prof. Mohamed Rela, the world-renowned liver transplant surgeon, as a Consultant and Clinical lead in Liver Anaesthesia and Intensive care at the Gleneagles Global Health city, Chennai. Under his tutelage, Dr. Kaliamoorthy became the Director of Institute of Liver Disease and Transplantation at Gleneagles Global Health city in 2016. During this period, Dr. Kaliamoorthy became famous for heading a team that rescued 110 patients by boats during the Chennai Rains of 2015.

In 2018, Dr. Kaliamoorthy joined Prof. Mohamed Rela at his new Hospital - Dr. Rela Institute & Medical Centre, Chennai. He was responsible for spearheading the administrative team in commissioning this new hospital. At the Dr. Rela Institute & Medical Centre, Dr. Kaliamoorthy designed and developed world's largest liver intensive care unit, named after Professor Julia Wendon, the renowned intensive care specialist from King’s College, London.

Today, Dr. Kaliamoorthy has gained vast experience in managing more than 1500 liver transplant recipients in the perioperative period. This includes 400 paediatric liver transplants, more than 1200 living donor liver transplants (LDLT) and 300 deceased donor liver transplants (DDLT). His experience also includes perioperative management of auxiliary liver Tx, acute liver failure, combined organ transplants and transplanting for complex and rare metabolic liver diseases in children. Dr. Kaliamoorthy has also managed more than 2500 complex hepatobiliary surgeries till date. His expertise has also resulted in many hospitals in India and aboard, approaching him for guidance while setting up their liver units. Recently, Dr. Kaliamoorthy was a part of the team which performed liver transplantation on a 42 days old baby, India’s youngest ever to undergo liver transplantation.

Till date, Dr. Kaliamoorthy has published more than 20 articles in indexed journals and written 2 book chapters. His expertise has also resulted in him being invited as a speaker in more than 50 National and International conferences. His accolades also include him being felicitated in 2012 by the Governor of Tamil Nadu for his contribution in promoting the Tamil Nadu Organ Donation Programme.

Dr. Gomathy Narasimhan is a Liver and Kidney Transplant Surgeon. She completed her multi- organ transplant fellowship from Baylor University, Dallas, Texas and further training from Kumamoto University, Japan. Her special interest is in combined liver and renal transplant in adult and children. She has been an integral part of Prof. Rela's team since 2009.

Her interest and flair for administrative roles prompted her to pursure healthcare management training from the esteemed IIM, Bangalore.

Her special areas of focus in her administrative capacity include providing a work culture that would enhance the commitment, accountability and attention to detail among employees which would translate into good patient care and positive patient experience.
