Dr Basumani, is an UK trained interventional gastroenterologist with more than 20 years of experience. He is an expert therapeutic endoscopist including ERCP and EUS. He has a rich experience in managing IBD, IBS, obstructive jaundice and anaemia. His special interest includes teaching, research and has authored several books and published many papers in international journals

Clinical Expertise

  • UK trained and with over 20 years of experience in the field.
  • Well known expert in therapeutic ERCPs including balloon sphincteroplasty, biliary and pancreatic stent insertions and large stone management with lithotripsy.
  • Special interest includes teaching, research and has authored several books and published many papers in international journals.
  • He is an expert ERCPist. I have done in excess of 1000 therapeutic ERCPs including balloon sphincteroplasty, Biliary and pancreatic stent insertions and large stone management with lithotripsy. My cannulation rates are in excess of 95%. I am an accredited trainer in ERCP. My ERCP performance meets requirements of Joint Accreditation in Gastroenterology criteria as evidenced by my regular 6 monthly audits.
  • Management of Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD): I have a sizeable experience of multimodality treatment of complex, difficult problems including the use of biologics. I led Rotherham Trust’s IBD Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT).
  • Digestive Endoscopy, including upper gastrointestinal Endoscopy and colonoscopy. I have performed in excess of 3000 colonoscopies with a caecal intubation rate of over 95%, and I am an accredited trainer in colonoscopy and a faculty in training courses in colonoscopy and haemostasis.
  • Symptom management and treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with particular expertise in Bile Acid Malabsorption (BAM).
  • The investigation and management of chronic diarrhoea, for example due to lactose intolerance or bacterial overgrowth.
  • Dyspepsia and gastro-oesophageal reflux including atypical clinical presentations.
  • Coeliac disease – case finding and management.
  • Investigation of iron deficiency anemia and frank or occult gastrointestinal bleeding.
  • Rich experience in complex advanced liver diseases, variceal bleeds and work-up/ follow-up care of liver transplants.
